A Very Strange Experience!!

We see Krsna in everything. My children literally grow up with Krsna. They eat His prasadam, listens to His stories every day and treats Him as the head of family.

Though they cannot speak Tamil, they sing Pallandu pallandu for perumal everyday. Even when they fight, they go and complain to Krsna about the other sibling. They will only listen to Krsna as well. Both my husband and adiyen would use only Krsna to pacify them. They are at least Krsna-fearing🙂

My first son will start his day with Acharyar thaniyangal, Bhagavad Gitai and Pallandu pallaanu after his regular sandya vandanam. He likes our sanadhana dharma and advocates it at his school whenever he can with very happy attitude. Adiyen do not teach much as I don’t know much. But whatever little adiyen is capable to teach, Krsna blesses my children to take them with such conviction due to the mercy of acharyar.

Even at temple, if anybody gives chocolates as prasadam which most of the times, to our misfortune, contain gelatin and are loaded with other non vegetarian preservatives, to our great relief and happiness, my children will not accept or eat them. My second son, who is 6 years old is very naughty and cheeky. He will pretend to accept it to provoke me but still won’t accept it even if I ask his to do so.

I know many parents would say their children sing very well, play instruments very well, say hundreds of slokam very well. These are the joys of parenthood and only mothers can understand what joy this bring out even though many think it is mere bragging. I see nothing wrong in it for these things only encourage children to do them more. In psychology it is called positive reinforcement and positive conditioning.

One thing that brings such a joy to adiyen is, they trust Krsna completely and treat His prasadam and Him one and the same. They will never compromise on prasadam:) This may sound ordinary for someone who live in divya desam but for children who grow up in western countries, this is such a challenge.

I consider my first son as the Guruvayoor kannan’s prasadam as we went to Guruvayoor first time in my life just few days after my marriage. Adiyen prayed sincerely to Guruvayoor kannan to come with me even if I have to go to Australia.

My first son, Pranav is also a very humble child. At least so far 🙂 in spite of turning a teenager this year 🙂 Today (November 9th) he came home and enquired me what adiyen would do if somebody slipped $50.00 into my bag and go away.

I told him I would give it back. He then asked me what I would do If I were in a train and that some body got down very quickly at the next station after slipping in the money.

I asked him straight away what the matter was. He said he was doing some school work on his lap top while sitting on the steps of the train. School children are not allowed to sit on seats in trains in Sydney as the tickets are free for them 🙂 The seats are for the passengers who buy tickets 🙂!! I wonder whether there is any rule for the passengers who buy tickets through discounted fair, like one leg on seat and another hanging!!!

When the next stop was announced, a middle aged man who appeared to be decent, went past him. For a brief second, he stopped by my son and he slipped something into my son’s packet and said “Buy a nice pair of pant or shoes, May God bless you” and then he rushed out to get down.

My son said he was really worried and scared in the beginning. Then he was taken aback as he realized the man had placed $50.00 into his shirt pocket!! This is a huge money for a kid, at least for Pranav as we don’t entertain pocket money!

When he told me, I did not know how to react being a community worker myself. I was very alarmed. I enquired to see if there is any risk of harm.

Why him? I was slightly panicked. I looked at my son and he looked fine to me. He wears his school uniform which says that he is going to one of the tops schools in Sydney, in fact No.2 in Sydney!! He carries his laptop (surface pro) and looks pleasantly dressed. So he definitely does not look like a poor child or under poverty!!! The only thing that might differentiate him from other kids is his shika (tuft / kudumi). So I was very concerned.

Even his shoes appeared to be fine though looked slightly battered. Schools in Sydney are of high standards and won’t let the students attend them if their dress code does not meet their standards.

He said his friends joked him that he should dress better 🙂, perhaps with designer brands! and even I wondered I must have ironed his uniforms !!!

As a concerned mother and a community worker, I called emergency and reported this incident. The police asked me whether I wanted to lodge any formal complaint. I told them ” no ” as I did not know the intention of the gentle man and did not want to cause him any nuisance as he might be really a loving and caring person. So no complaint was made against him but the incident was ‘reported’.

As a psychotherapist, I tried to work out the intention behind it the other way. My son might have reminded him of someone in his family or someone he had cared once or someone he had missed so much. Perhaps he might have thought Pranav a poor refugee child who is working very hard by the Asian/Indian appearance of Pranav!! or simply a reason he knows and only he can clarify. I tried to remain non judgmental, as my profession advises.

When my husband came from work, we explained what happened. My husband said I had over reacted by calling police.

May be. But I am a community worker ! The mystery man may be a gentle man and I do not want to suspect his noble intentions as I want to give him the benefit of doubt. Unfortunately some experience and my profession always make me little bit over cautious, over protective and over thinking 🙂

But still I was concerned as a mother. My husband and I told my son to be careful.

We are neither poor nor in need of such money. But we do know how this money can make a difference in others life. My son said he would like to give this to charity. We happily agreed to this.

Also we told him to ask the person to contact us if he happened to see the person again on train. We wanted to say our thanks to the person for his kindness and share our appreciation with him. At the same time, we also would like him to know that there might be other ways to do donation without scaring anyone 🙂. We also would like to ask the person whether he would be happy if we spent the money on Krsna and a charity run by our acharyar which we are going to do any way.

Let us see this from Krsna perspective. Where does Krsna come here? you may wonder 🙂

I can’t help but wonder such acts even if the intention is good. if the man has wanted to help, he could have donated to charity!!!! So this is rather an impulse act, not a planned one. something in Pranav must have made him do it 🙂 ( is he really looking very poorish ? , poor pranav : )

Putting aside negative thoughts and usual fears, I tried to see positive things in it. Many of my friends who are bhaagavathas told me that the person must have seen some innocence and effulgence in my son’s face. They implied that this must be from Krsna as they reminded me of the kindness in that gentle man is Krsna!!! I would love to think this way. But I am not very convinced of their suggestions 🙂 as we are nowhere near the definition of sincere bhagavathas, only trying our worst! We can do better 🙂

But adiyen told Pranav only few days ago that he should build temple for Rangamannar and udayavar in Sydney, Vamana desam as his duty to both acharyar and parents where Udayavar will be given utmost service. He was puzzled and said how he could do it. We told him not to worry and take prabhupada as his example who built many temples around world with less than 100 rupess in his pocket. Adiyen also said funnily that Lakshmi / thaayar would come by herself to build temple for her husband 🙂

I told Pranav to reassure (after a lenghty call with police) that it is just Krsna leela to prove that Lakshmi/dhanam will never be a problem if we are sincere. We realised even a small hut will be enough to conduct satsangam. Why million or billion dollar temple when all Krsna wants is patram, pushpam , palam and toyam !! So Pranav looked little convinced that he can build a temple for Udayavar.

Pranav shares his English birth day with Sri Ramanujar. On the day of his upanayanam, our acharyar gave him a book which read that around 1000 years ago, Sri Ramanujar was born on April 4th 1017. To our pleasant surprise, this is also the birth day of Pranav. What amazed us then and now is, only after Pranav was born, adiyongal took complete saranagathi at our Acharyar’s lotus feet and realized the importance of taking panchasamskaram and being a Sri Vaishnava.

Pranav’s school was quite opposite to Radha Gopinath Mandir in Sydney!!

I don’t know if Pranav sees Krsna everyday but adiyen thinks Radha Gopinath sees him every day and looks after him.

“May God bless you” is still ringing into my ear. May Krnsa bless the mystery man for his helping nature!!! Because he kind of made Pranav to understand service to Krsna is the first duty.

May Krsna bless everyone!!

Please note: Please note the intention is to create awareness within our own family to realise and relate everything is administered by Krsna and live life as a service to Him. adiyen apologises if this post makes anybody any inconvenience. RadheKrsna!

Srimathe Ramanujya:
Sri embar jeeyar thiruvadigale charanam!

Eppo Vareal? (When are you coming back?)

Adiyen was blessed enough to hear the voice of Acharyar yesterday. The day being, Guru Purnima, it was an humbling experience to receive mangala sasanam from Acharyar Sri Sri Embar Jeeyar Swamingal.
As adiyen offered my prayers and respects to Sri Sri acharyar, the first question he asked was Ëppo varreal? (meaning eppo vareengo or when are you coming back?)”. Adiyen went speechless. It made adiyen cry and, being a very merciful and compassionate azwaneyana enathacharyan, consoled adiyen and recommended to perform my duty well until the time would come.

Adiyen realised it is not Krsna or anyone for that matter who prevents us from performing bhagavath and acharyan kaimgaryam but our own karma (excessive attachment to what we are doing even though they are not the prescribed duties of sri vaishnavas) that makes it harder to take complete saranagathy at the lotus feet of Udayavar and acharyar and engage in Bhaagavatha kaimgaryam. While adiyen keeps finding excuses to justify adiyen’s ignorance, adiyen prays acharyan and his lotus feet to give adiyen strength to return to the service of Acharyar and Jagadguru Udayavar.

Happy Guru Poornima to you all!

TEXT 47

translation:
You have full authority to do your duty. But you have no authority ( or control ) over what will be the outcome or fruit of your action. Never become the cause of the outcome of your duties. Please do not shirk your duty either (thinking you are neither a doer nor the enjoyer).

( It appears Krsna advises us not to worry about controlling the outcome of our action as it not only would affect the quality of performance of duty but also would make one get very distracted and can potentially stop a person from doing the duty itself.

It also appears that Krsna in fact advises us never to become the doer of our actions and enjoy the success or lament the failure. It also means one must understand the dharma ( responsibility) behind delivering the prescribed duty. )

Text 48

yoga-sthah kuru karmani
sangam tyaktva dhananjaya
siddhy-asiddhyoh samo bhutva
samatvam yoga ucyate

Translation:
O Arjuna, stay focused in your yogam and do your duty in a detached state by treating both successful and unsuccessful accomplishment of duty equal or alike. Such state of equilibrium is called Yogam (budhi yogam).

Text 51

karma-jam buddhi-yukta hi
phalam tyaktva manisinah
janma-bandha-vinirmuktah
padam gacchanty anamayam

Translation:
The gnanis, who give up the fruits of action by being situated in budhi yogam get liberated from the circle of birth and death and hence reach parama padam which is beyond all miseries.

In this sloka, Krsna says clearly that performing karma with budhi yogam is also one of the means to attain saranagathi.

This is what Bakthas like Vibishanar and Sukreevar did. They used their budhi to perrform yoogam which is serving Perumal to attain eternalliberation while Kumba karnan and Vali failed to perform as they were attached to the outcome of their duty.

Karnan is also another example who failed to fix on budhi yogam and deliver his duty in spite of the valiance and intelligence he had, as he was attached to the outcome of what Duryodanan has given to him, His kingdoam and the status that came through it. Duryodana made Krana a King, elevated his position among Pandavas. So Karna performed all his duty of supporting Duryodanan under the influence of repaying his debt (senjotruk kadan in tamil).

another example adiyen would like to use is from the life of Karna’s.

The duty of first son is to protect mother and his siblings which he failed to deliver due to his attachment towards good name, status and senjotru kadan. All karna could have done was, to go to Duryodan and explain everything to him and say he would support Pandavas or not support anyone. Because fighting against either of them would not help him perform his duty at his best as he could not fix his budhi on neither of these obligations.

He gave words to Kunti not to kill any of her sons other than Arjuna (or only one of her sons). By doing this he failed Duryodnana. By fighting against Arjuna, Karna only raised doubts among people that he was still disturbed by the fact that Arjuna got the fame which Karna thought he might have deserved if Dronacharyar had accepted Karna as his disciple. He could have chosen less strong warriors in comparison with his skills like Nakhula or Sahadeva if he had actually wanted to help Duryodana win the battle.

Often, adiyen relates myself to the position and dilemma of Karna. Adiyen very well knows that adiyen should serve acharyan and alwars in their Divya Desam . But adiyen gives excuses using my intelligence and gnanam that I am obliged to look after my family in Sydney, etc and pray to Krsna to help me achieve the required saranagathi as though it is some formula that can be changed only by Him.

This is just adiyen’s ahankaram only as there is no righteous reason to tie me in Sydney. Samsara saharam is the hurdle which needs to be overcome with the blessings of Acharyan. But adiyen is willing to put both of adiyen’s legs in its clutches and try to create a sorry figure like Karna or use my intelligence to justify everything that stops me from not doing this. More shame that I in fact put Krsna himself accountable for not helping me or giving me enough strength to perform duties prescribed for adiyen!

Karnanin ahankarathai vathaitha kannane
adiyenin ahankaraththayum podithu acharyanidam sendru serkum vairakkiyaththai thaa… (Ho adiyen still asks Kanna to give adiyen Vairakyam… Hard to change habits , when am I going to become the humble servant who do not seek but serve)

Acharyar thiruvadigale charanam!

Adiyen Embar Dasyai.

Acharyar Sri Embar Jeeyar thiruvadigale charanam!

Radhe Krsna Bhagavatha Bandhus,

Please accept adiyenin namaskarams. May Lord Govinda and All Bhagavatha bandhus forgive this insincere soul for the below write up. May Lord Govinda be present in my consciousness as He was present on the yezhuthani (pen) of thumbikai Azvan when he compiled Srimad Mahabaratham! May my beloved Lord Krsna conduct my writing !

adiyen’s Acharyar used to explain the word ‘Ayengar’ denotes the people who have undertaken panchasamskaram (ainthu angangalayum udayavar) and it is not specific to any caste or creed. I used to be ignorant and arrogant thinking I am a Brahmin because I am born so. I was just an useless mere ‘ I’ then. Now this ‘I’ became adiyen through Acharya sambandam, a proper ayengar, a surrendered soul/ prapannan / surrendered devotee. adiyen begs all swamis pardon for being not humble and saying I have become Lord’s devotee and servant. Adiyen believes Lord Govinda would definitely take me as His servant due to udayavar and adiyen’s Acharyar’s sambandham and saranagathi. Adiyen has not even a iota of doubt about their mercy in granting moksham to adiyen.

All Bhagavatha Bandhus, Kindly bless and pray for this adiyen so this adiyen could strengthen the Krsna bakthi and Acharya Bakthi and follow our Sri vaishanvam like the way our LokAcharyar Sri Ramanujar would expect. He gave thiru manthiram to every one regardless of the caste or creed and made all as aiyangars. Let this adiyen respect every one as Lord Givinda’s servant only .

As per our Acharyar, an aiyangar can come from any of the four asrama and being an aiyangar does not mean one is Brahmin , but more than that , a Sri vaishnava. A Sri Vaishnava is superior to all as she is a prapannan. I was about to use the pronoun ‘he’ in the preceded sentence but then realised Lord Sriman Narayana is the only ‘He’ as firmly declared by Udayavar and hence was directed by His mercy to use ‘she’ .

Duties as per VarnAsrama – Brahmin,Kshatria , Vaisya and Sudra – are different form the duties of Aiyangar. One has to fulfil the duty of dharma one is assigned to her varnasrma dharma. A duty of a Brahmin is to educate others about absolute truth /parabrahmam/ Lord Sriman Narayana in a satvik way and a duty of kshatria is to protect the dharma and all the living entities. A duty of true vaisya is to conduct business in such a way all living entities are nourished and a duty of Sudra is to render service to run the chaitanyam of Lord Sruiman Naryana in any way one can.

But a duty of Sri vaishnava is to follow the dharma set by Emperumanaar and that is lovingly imparted into us by our Acharyars – a total unwavered surrender at the Lotus Feel of Lord Govinda and serving His devotees with unbound joy and complete prapatti and avoiding engaging into activities that distract us from this service. Whenever adiyen gets any sanjalam, adiyen refers to Emperumanar Darshanam. Adiyen must admit living on overseas due to the dharma of wife, adiyen has no right to utter the thirumanthiram or consider myself an adiyen. May adiyen seek lord Govinda, all poorvacharyars, adiyen’c Acharyar and all bhagavatha bandhus to shelter this insicere soul so adiyen could also serve the Lord Govinda the way Udavar would approve.

When Thirumazhisai Azwar who is regarded as reincarnation of Lord Sudharshana, considers Hismself as untouchable , not belonging to any of these 4 high class categories, what this adiyen can consider about adiyen’s useless status?

Who is dear to Lord Govinda? – Part 1

Srimathe Ramanujaya Namaha:
Radhe Krsna Bhagavatha Bandhus,
Adiyen’s namaskarams.

Catur-VidhA bhajante mAm janAha sukritino ‘rjuna

Arto jijNAsur arthAsrthi jNAnI ca bharatarsabha

Sri Bhagavan uvacha (Lord Hari says in BG 7.16): O best among BharathAs, Arjuna, Four kinds of men begin to render devotional services unto me – The distressed, the desirer of wealth, the inquisitive, and he who is searching for knowledge of the absolute, that is Lord Sriman Narayana !

tesAm JNAni nitya-yukta eka-bhaktir visisyate

prioyo hi jNAnino ‘tyartham aham sa ca mama priyaHa

Sri Bhagavan uvacha ( Lord Govinda says in BG 7.17) : Of these, the one who is full of knowledge and who is always engaged in pure devotional service is the best. For I am very dear to him and he is dear to me!

Adiyen’s realisation: Bhagavat Gita spoken by Lord Govida is very simple and clear. In these slokas, Lord says Bakthi is the true Knowledge and Baktha is only dear to Him. How can we become Bhaktha  then?

To our relief, Shastras suggest Lord is very merciful that He accepted every one as His bakthas / servants /adiyongal only .  Yes, He accepted all of these four type of people as His bakthas out of His generosity.  In Gajendra moksham, the elephant king Gajendra was in such a distress that he did not even know what to do or how to address Lord or how to call Lord  using any specific name as he ran out of energy in the 1000 year war with the crocodile. After chanting/imploring with all the names of the gods for  thousand years, Gajendra finally realised he is not addressing the Lord using His unique name or unique form and other representatives of lord such as Indra, Surya , Brahma or Rudra are not as powerful as Parabrahmam / absolute Knowledge and He did not know how to address that parabrahmam as His intelligence is clouded with distress .

Many times, adiyen gets to see people ask questions like this: what form of  Lord did they need to worship ? What pooja would bring more blessings or what pariharams are needed to be done to have the mercy of Lord?

The above slokas rendered by Lord Himself answers succinctly to these questions. For a saranagathan/ prapannan /fully surrendered devotee, devotional service is the only means to reach Him. The elephant king Gajendra pleaded the Lord without even uttering any of his Divine Namas properly that are exclusive for Him!  He pleaded The almighty to save him simply out of agony . And Our Lord Hari arrived on Garuda with His Sudharshana Chakrathazwan to destroy the distress of Gajendra i.e to release him from the clutches of  Crocodile.

Many of you must be aware of the story of Bhaktha Dhruva maharaj. He meditated upon the Lotusfeet of Lord Hari to fulfil his material desire – to get the unwavered attention of His father and perhaps not just a seat on His father’s lap but his throne as well in future so he could be considered mightier than his brother – Lord still attended Dhruva’s beck and call and fulfilled not only Dhruva’s material desire but Lord’s spiritual desire as well by granting vaikuntap praapthi – Dhruva is a star now in Sri Vaikuntam, the eternal abode of Lord. which can’t be destroyed like other planets or stars during pralaya kalam(deluge) as Dhruva attained prapatti at the lotus feet of Lord even though to seek material desires!!

One of our Alwars , Sri Thirumazhisai Alwar was very inquisitive, He learnt Bhudism, saivam and Samanam (Jainism) . He was very inquisitive to learn about the truth of the Para Brahmam so he never left any stone unturned and was known as Siva vakkiyar. Finally He learnt the truth and attained the absolute knowledge through the blessings of Lord Hari, that is to say, through acharyar Peyalwar’s sambandham (through his spiritual master’s relationship)

Whatever one’s stage is, we need to remember the Lord and if we are sincere in remembering Him, Lord Govinda rectifies our mistakes and grant us bakthi.
Even though one is like a distressed elephant who shouted every god’s name that he could remember, like Dhruva who wanted material gain like father’s love , lap and kingdom and Like Thirumazhisai Alwar who explored all religious practices to seek the absolute truth, through the blessings of Lord Govinda, as all are dear to him , He will send each one of us a Divine Acharyar to guide us towards Bakthi so we can chant Lord’s name like Bhaktha Prahalada  who is so dear to lord. Let us follow the footstep and shortcut of Prahalada to reach Lord as he is always engaged in serving Lord with devotional service.

As Dhruva was directed by spiritual master Narada , Saint Sri Thirumazhaisai Alwar by Peyalwar and the elephant was sheltered directly by Lord Hari Himself as it could not seem to evolve out of His animal consciousness(adiyen is only joking here) , because he stopped thinking actual names of Lord like adiyen , Lord Govinda straight away came to rescue His bhaktha. Lord straight away rescued this adiyen also in the form of  Divine Sri HH HG Sri Appan Parakala Ramanuja Embar Jeeyar Swamigal .

Please accept my apologies for all my aparadhams and babbles. Adiyen is useless until now but hope to become fully engaged in the devotional service of Lord through the mercy of Lord Sri Govinda, adiyen’s Acharyar HH Sri Embar Jeeyar Swamigal and all the bhagavathas.

Sarvam Sri Krsnarpanamasthu!

-Adiyen

I am planning to learn one song a week from here onwards. By saying ‘ Learn one song ‘ a week , I am trying to mean how to sing not to by heart fully as I have very poor memory and a big ‘ Ï can’t do this ‘ attitude as well . Often We all get wonderful opportunities to hear many beautiful kirtans composed by divine bhaktas but occasionally we sit to learn them due to our other commitments.

Once again, I mean here people like me who are not professional singers or talented singers but have great respect on music as it is such an easy means to develop Bhakthi . When you sing for Him with genuine feelings, I am sure , it reaches him at once and He responds immediately back towards you with his loving grace.

This week I am teaching my son this beautiful song . This sweet telugu Kirtan was written by Divine His Grace Sriman Badracala Ramadasa Kavi .

Note: You can also join me if you like. It will be even easy and more motivating if we do it as a group. We can encourage and inspire one another in a group environment.

Lyrics the way we sing as follows below.

Bhagavad Sri Annamacarya’s Kirtanamulu / kirtans

Ekkadi manusha janmamu bettina palame unnadi

This is one of the superb yet very down to earth kirtans written by Sriman Annamacarya for the people like me who are not perfect but still desiring to serve the lord . I am such a poor soul that I am not very sincere and not giving my best to be sincere as well. I can’t use words like ‘people like me’ as I genuinely feel it will be almost impossible to find an another person like me . So kindly accept my heartfelt and genuine appologies in advance for usings phrases like this .Whenever I feel very bad , I think of this kirtan and sing it for Him , my divine Lord Sri Krsna, requesting him to accept a imperfect soul like me ..

The speciality of Sriman Annamacarya’s kirtans are , they are not written to express his feelings but the common people like me. He was very kind and considerate that he wrote this beautiful kirtan for even a soul like me to pour my heart out unto the lotus feet of Sri Krsna .

You can hear this soul stirring kirtanam sung by various singers on Internet or YouTube and learn it as well. I hope this lyrics given here may be of some little help if you need the lyrics of this beautiful song.

Note :- I have heard that this is actually a beautiful composition written by Sri Pedda Tirumalacharya, the elder son of Annamacharya who followed his father’s line in composing songs for Sri venkatachalapathy.
